When viewing the catch statistics, please note that there are a number of variables that affect the commercial harvest of shellfish and ultimately the catch statistics.  Some of these include: improvements in gear and technology, economic variables, the number of fishermen harvesting, and changes in management strategies.

Catch statistics play an important role in management, as the catch is one indicator of the status of shellfish stocks.
