Listed below are some suggested shellfishing clothing items

Gloves - For shellfishing in general, and for oystering in particular, a pair of tough, flexible fairly thick gloves is essential.  Oyster edges are razor sharp and can inflict severe cuts that are both painful and slow to heal.  For cold weather fishing, be sure your gloves are insulated or that you wear an inner liner; and be sure they don’t leak.  If you plan to fish in even a small amount of water, consider gloves that extend up your arm.

Hats - Headgear to keep warm, repel rain and snow, and provide shade will help while shellfishing.

Boots - We don't recommend wearing sandals or going barefoot while shellfishing.  A good pair of knee high boots will keep your feet safe and dry.  Insulated boots are critical in cold weather.

Cold weather gear - Loose fitting, layered, windproof, and waterproof clothes work best.  Remember, the wind chill on the flats can be more than twenty degrees below that experienced just a few hundred yards inland.
