The history of shellfishing is long and proud in Wellfleet.  Here we present a brief synopsis of the major events and changes that have affected shellfish and shellfishermen.

David Belding was a pivotal character in Wellfleet's shellfish industry at the start of the twentieth century.  His scientific studies provided essential information for management of the fisheries and development of aquaculture.
