Commercial permits allow you to harvest shellfish for sale,
trade, or other consideration. A
commercial permit may be issued to any person fourteen years of age or
older, who has been a bona fide domiciled resident (See Sec. 2
Definitions) of the Town of Wellfleet for the immediate past six months or more. Residents aged
fourteen through sixteen may be issued junior commercial permits.
Any commercial permit will be revoked if the holder ceases to be a bona
fide domiciled resident of the Town of Wellfleet.
Commercial permits will not be issued to unnaturalized foreign-born
persons who have not resided in Barnstable County at least five years prior
to making application. Recreational permits allow you to harvest shellfish for your own consumption and recreational pleasure. These are available to Wellfleet taxpayers and non-residents alike, though the fees vary. Permits may be issued to any individual twelve years of age or older.
